Firebase Dynamic Links (FDL) support for existing projects ends August 25
It’s 2025, the year of the great Firebase Dynamic Links (FDL) deprecation. Announced 2 years ago, FDL deprecation isn’t new news at this point; however, the final deprecation deadline is no longer years away… but just months—August 25, 2025, to be exact. Firebase Dynamic Links have not been available for new projects for quite some time now, but effective August 25, all Dynamic Links still in use across existing projects will cease to function. If you don’t find and implement an FDL alternative before this date, your link functionality will break, negatively impacting user experience, marketing campaigns, and app engagement.
If you’re still looking for a new solution, or have already tried another solution and are unhappy, now’s the time to act.
About Firebase Dynamic Links
Originally introduced in 2016 as a component of the Firebase platform, Firebase Dynamic Links have long empowered app developers to create deep links that effortlessly guide users to specific content or actions within an app, facilitating smooth user experiences. Additionally, Dynamic Links provide sophisticated tracking and analytics tools to evaluate the effectiveness and influence of various linking strategies, offering crucial insights for optimizing user journeys.
Finding Your Ideal FDL Replacement
When looking for a new FDL solution, here are key capabilities to look for:
- Cross-platform compatibility: Links work seamlessly across iOS and Android devices.
- Deep linking capabilities: Users can be directed to specific content within your app based on the link clicked.
- Analytics and attribution: Click tracking clarifies how users are interacting with your links.
- Customizable parameters: Custom data can be added to your links for tailored user experiences.
Researching new providers to fulfill your deep linking needs can be challenging, especially when you’re on a tight timeline and can’t expend the time and resources to implement and test varying tools. Thankfully, Google has provided a recommended list of FDL alternatives for marketers and app developers that need full feature parity with FDL. Included on the list is Kochava.
Since the original FDL deprecation announcement in 2023, Kochava has assisted numerous app developers and organizations in migrating away from FDL. If you haven’t found your solution yet, we’re here to help.
